It’s disappointing, a happier team got through, says Trpišovský after Slavia’s Champions League elimination

Slavia failed to reverse the result of the first leg at home and Ferencváros will now go to the next stage of the Champions League. How does coach Jindřich Trpišovský evaluate the match with the Hungarian champion?
The first match was unlucky for Slavia, they scored two goals practically on their own, and wasted several chances. It was clear that in the rematch they would have to outplay their opponents.
This more or less happened, but it didn’t translate into the result. The Sixers clearly outshot Ferencváros, but the efficiency? It was really poor. A 1:0 win wasn’t enough for a turnaround.
“The game is about the quality of execution. We had more chances in both games, in all offensive metrics we won or were significantly better in both games. But the decision was made in the penalty areas, where we didn’t score more than one goal. Thehappier team advanced,” coach Jindřich Trpišovský said after the match.
However, the coach is aware of the opponent’s qualities and does not underestimate them. However, he did not hide his disappointment. “If the match had gone into overtime, we would have had more strength. It’s very disappointing. The guys, the backdrop and the team deserved the overtime.”
In the last four attempts, Slavia have only advanced to the Champions League group stage once. According to Trpišovský, the reasons for the failure were always somewhere else and always a step was missing. Besides, he said Slavia handles matches better during the season than at the beginning.
Slavia will have to fight for the Europa League, in the last qualifying round they will play Legia Warsaw. Trpišovský is aware that nothing easy awaits his charges. He expects a war, similar to the match against Ferencváros.
However, the coach of the Susians is also happy for the Europa League. He wants to see a good quality opponent so that the whole team can enjoy it with the fans. Still, he admitted that everyone was eager for the Champions League. But that doesn’t change the motivation and ambition.
In conclusion, Trpišovský hinted at possible changes in the squad: “We are two games away from the goal, not the dream. Nothing changes for me, we want to go to Europe. The transfers are just getting underway, there is interest in some players and in transfers or guest appearances. But there are a number of injured players who are hardly going anywhere.”
