It’s cruel when money controls Formula 1, Giovinazzi said. What is the main reason for his departure from Alfa Romeo?
That Formula 1 is big business has been known for a relatively long time. After all, commerce itself has been coming to the world of the queen of motorsport gradually since the 1960s. Now Antonio Giovinazzi has recalled one of the main reasons why he is leaving Formula 1 in the first place. What does his statement say?

Commerce and money probably play as much a role in Formula 1 as in any other sport. And sometimes, unfortunately, it’s the drivers themselves who take the hit. This was one of the factors why Juan Manuel Fangio decided to end his rich career a long time ago.
In later years, the era of laurels awarded to podium finishers came to an end because of this. The sponsors at the time were annoyed that the laurels covered their logos and were not only not visible on TV.
Something similar, or on a similar theme, was stated by Giovinazzi, who lost his job with the Alfa Romeo Racing Orlen team. This is what the Italian’s statement looks like on his Twitter account.
“F1 is about emotion, talent, cars, risk and speed. But it’s cruel that money still rules Formula 1,” Giovinazzi’s post reads above.
“I believe in the surprise of the unexpected result, of victories big or small achieved thanks to my commitment. If this is my first shot in a Formula 1 car, I have to get one last one,” he adds, concluding.
Yes, the newcomer Kuan-yu Zhou is a talented driver and will probably show us a lot. But the truth remains that money is currently what decided his placement in the team’s number two role, and what caused Giovinazzi to lose his place.
The way Formula 1 generally works is that when two drivers are fighting for a seat for the following season, one of which has a really rich sponsor behind it, the decision is often made at that point. Especially if it’s a stable where the finances are not so good.
This was also the case with Nikita Mazepin’s engagement as Mick Schumacher’s teammate at Haas.
In this case, the sponsorship of the Chinese driver will bring tens of millions of dollars to the Italian team. Whether this is fair or not, we’ll leave that up to you. However, we have to admit that Giovinazzi has continued to improve and his performances have often been admirable, especially when it comes to the various qualifying times.
“It is never easy to say goodbye to a driver, especially in the case of Antonio, who has been part of the team for a long time. We cherish the memories of the good times and we will learn from the bad ones as well, because thanks to these moments we have grown together as a team,” Alfa Romeo boss Frédéric Vasseur told the team’s official website.
“We wish Antonio all the best, but we still have three races left in the season. We will try to achieve the best possible results to finish the year well,” he concluded.
