Criticism of the demanding programme of the best tennis players in the world has been rampant lately. German player Alexander Zverev has joined these voices. And he has backed up his words with action. He pulled out of the prestigious tournament in China at the last minute.

The German tennis player is calling for a solution to the demanding schedule of professional tennis players. But he is aware that a cure will certainly not be easy to find.

In fact, he admits that he doesn’t know what complaining players should do. It is clear to him that they cannot afford to boycott tournaments.

But what he is clear about is the culprit in the situation. “The ATP is not interested in our opinion,” Zverev is clear . All tennis is simply a business and it’s all about money.

Zverev will not play in Beijing

The main problem is the too extensive tournament calendar. The big problem is the tournaments with compulsory participation. So the German tennis player decided to at least adjust his schedule. A few days before the start, he decided not to participate in the China Open in Beijing.

The tournament with the highest subsidy of all the events held in September thus lost one of its biggest stars. But other big names are likely to make an appearance at the China Open.

Defending champion Jannik Sinner is still among the players registered for the event, which starts on September 26, as is Alcaraz. Russians Medvedev and Rublyov should not be missed either.

The current world number two Zverev will not complete them. The German will not have the chance to follow up the semi-final he reached last year in the Chinese capital.
