Slovan Bratislava didn’t win the game, but only lost it, but they reached the penalty shootout, where they overcame HŠK Zrinjski Mostar and advanced to the Conference League.
Things were already looking pretty bad for Slovan. First, they fell to Ferencváros in the Champions League qualifiers, then they couldn’t even beat Olympiakos in the third round of the Conference League and went all the way to the Conference League preliminary round.
And even here the Slovak champion looked pretty miserable. Zrinjski Mostar lost the first match 0:1 and had to make up the score in the rematch. Eric Ramírez scored in the 67th minute to send the game to overtime.
But in the 103rd minute, Savic sent the Bosnian team into the lead and things looked bad for Slovan again. Moreover, when Jaba Kankawa was sent off in the 118th minute.
What the fans didn’t know was that Ramírez was having a lucky day. Not only did he score his first goal after only a minute on the pitch, he saved an even better piece for the setup.
In the 122nd minute, the second minute of the 30-minute overtime setup, Slovan sent a centre into the whitewash, and after two headers, the ball went to the 23-year-old Venezuelan, who slammed it in with his scissors. The ball ended up in the net and a huge joy broke out on the Tehelny Pole.
The morale boosted Slovan players successfully managed to take the penalty when Čavrič scored in the seventh series. The Slovakian champion will play in the Conference League’s regular group, where they are in the second basket and can knock Slavia Prague out of the first basket.
