It’s a dream come true. I hope I score more goals and that it will go on like this, the hero Pešek is happy about his dream start

Sparta Prague secured the European Cups for this season with Wednesday’s win over Rapid Vienna and will now try to pull off a big surprise against Monaco, who will no doubt be much more relaxed.

There is no doubt that Jakub Pesek, who returned to his beloved club after many years this season, played a key role in the progression, and he couldn’t have timed his debut goal at a better time!

“It was my first goal in my life and my first in Sparta. I am very happy. It was a dream come true. I hope to score more goals and that it will continue like this,” Pešek told the club’s website.

The 28-year-old midfielder not only scored a goal himself, but he set up the first goal of the match. “From my point of view, it was a penalty. I was on the ball earlier. I jumped in front of the defending player, the goalkeeper was too late. He hit me in the jaw. It was definitely a penalty,” says the hero of Wednesday’s match.

As already mentioned, by advancing to the next round of Champions League qualification, Sparta secured the European Cup for this season, which after years of stagnation is finally encouraging news for all fans of the team.

“I definitely felt the pressure. We were aware of how important this match was. It’s different. Sparta is a big club. The fans are hungry for success. It hasn’t been here for a long time. I’m happy that the fans were with us and pushed us to it,” the native of Hlinsko is pleased.

After a few months of playing in front of empty stands, the fans were finally able to come to the stadium in large numbers and it showed! “A big thank you to them, they drove us for 90 minutes. We were riding on our asses and they got us to the goal,” said Pesek.

Sparta now face a tough Monaco, who finished third in Ligue 1 last season, just five points behind victorious Lille.

The traditional side has been led for over a year by Niko Kovac, who has a lot of great talent at his disposal, led at the top by two very experienced strikers Wissam Ben Yedder and Kevin Volland.

“Monaco will be the paper favourite. If we prepare well, the fans might be able to come in bigger numbers, so I think everything is possible,” Pesek concluded the interview.
