The president of the Italian football federation, Gabriele Gravina, is under investigation for embezzlement and money laundering in connection with the sale of television rights. However, he denied all the allegations at a meeting with prosecutors in Rome.

Italian newspaper Football Italia came up with the information on Wednesday evening. While according to La Repubblica, Gravina and his lawyers have appeared for questioning at the Rome prosecutor’s office in the last few dozen hours.

However, the investigation of the president of the Italian federation is linked to another case being supervised by the prosecutor in Perugia.

This case involved 16 other people accused of obtaining private information on VIPs and Italian politicians through various platforms. This includes the database of the National Directorate for the Fight against the Mafia.

Some of this information concerned Gravina, who had to appear for questioning. According to Italian media reports, Gravina is accused of illegally using money from the 2018 TV rights auction, when he was in charge of the third league.

Gravina has denied everything

Italian authorities reportedly suspect that the auction, which was won by ISG Ginko, was somehow linked to the private trading of old books that Gravina allegedly sold for thousands of euros.

And although the president of the Italian football federation reportedly did not eventually conclude the deal, he remains a suspect. According to Football Italia, he nevertheless received the money as a non-refundable advance.

“We have asked for a hearing and submitted documentation to show that our client is innocent. We have clarified everything. And we are sure that the truth will come out soon,” Gravino’s lawyers said in an official statement.
