Italy won their opening match of the European Championship, beating the Turks 3:0. All goals were scored after exchanging sides, first Merih Demiral scored an own goal, then Ciro Immobile scored and Lorenzo Insigne closed the scoring.

Ciro Immobile had the first chance of the match in the second minute, but only hit the side netting from a free kick. After that, the game calmed down a bit, until in the 18th minute, after a nice combination, Lorenzo Insigne shot wide.

Italy’s pressure grew more and more, and four minutes later goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır had to blink against a header by Giorgio Chiellini. In the 44th minute, Immobile shot from a good position but only hit the centre of the goal.

That was the last chance of the first half and the game was scoreless. The Turks did not respond until the 50th minute when Cengiz Ünder hit the Italian goalkeeper. And he was sorry. Three minutes later, Domenico Berardi broke away, fouled Merih Demiral and he knocked the ball into his own net.

In the 66th minute, it was two goals to the good. Immobile found the ball in the whitewash and shot past the goalkeeper. The Italians were incredibly productive in the second half, with Insigne uncompromisingly slotting past the keeper in the 79th minute.

After that, the game was all about finishing the game, with only unnecessary hard tackles from the Turks. Italy defeated Turkey 3-0 to lead Group A.
