Italy in trouble after the crash! Its youngsters are not playing in Serie A, the record is already frightening at first sight
The Italian population is furious after the national team’s failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup. The European champions will only watch the tournament in Qatar on TV and fans are expecting a generational change. But where to take them?

Italy went into their unsuccessful barrage against North Macedonia with an experienced squad, with only two players aged 23 or under. Namely Gianluigi Donnarumma and Alessandro Bastoni. But where have the other youngsters gone? They don’t play much in Serie A.
Looking at the table from the top, the first four teams didn’t let their young Italians into the game at all. AC Milan, Napoli, Inter and Juventus gave them a combined nine minutes on the pitch.
The second four are doing a little better. Atalanta gave their hopes a chance in twelve games, AS Roma in nine. Seventh-placed Lazio have not relied on youngsters for a long time, nor have Fiorentina, even after the departure of offensive mainstay Dusan Vlahovic.
Left back Destiny Udogie is the most important player. At 19, he is shining at Udinese, has played 65 percent of the possible playing time and is the best hope of Italian football. He has two goals and one assist.
Italy’s number 11 is still doing well. They hold first place in their qualifying group for Euro 2023, three points ahead of second-placed Sweden. But will this generation with no experience in Serie A be able to make a smooth transition to the senior national team?
