Italy kept the unbeaten streak in matches for over two years. It was only on Wednesday that Spain broke that streak, knocking them out 2-1 in the semi-finals. The Italian national team’s incredible unbeaten streak lasted 37 matches.
But on Sunday, in the third-place match in the Nations League, Italy again went undefeated. They defeated Belgium 2-1. Belgium, however, was considerably weakened, with the absence of stars Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku.
The first to score was Nicolo Barella, who scored after a corner kick just after the start of the second half. Domenico Berardi added the Italians’ second goal after converting a penalty kick.
The Belgians were given hope of a good result by substitute Charles De Ketelaere, who reduced the deficit to 1:2 with five minutes to go.
Belgium was the better team throughout the match, but the Italians were more successful in finishing. The Belgians hit the post three times. Star Kevin de Bruyne came on in the second half, but it did not change the result in Italy’s favour.
Italy therefore takes third place in the Nations League, with Belgium finishing fourth. France will face Spain in the final for the best team in the Nations League, the match will be played in Milan. Last year’s winner was Portugal, who will win this year?
