Italian Spezia has a two-year transfer ban! The reason is the purchase of underage players from Nigeria

Italian first league club Spezia has a big problem. After a thorough investigation, it has a two-year transfer ban for bringing in several underage Nigerian footballers. As a result, it will only be able to register new players from the summer of 2023, a major setback in its quest to stay in the top flight.

FIFA’s disciplinary committee has punished Italian top-flight club Spezia with a two-year ban on transfers, the reason being the purchase of several underage Nigerian footballers.

The 15th team of the past season will thus not be able to register new signings until the summer of 2023. It will thus have a lot of work to do in order to remain top-flight by then.

However, the transfer ban is not the only punishment Spezia has received, they must also pay a fine of 500,000 Swiss francs.

That’s the equivalent of just under 12 million crowns. So for new coach Thiago Motta, this is a big hit to his plans.

However, the problems for Spezia do not end there. The club has not only broken transfer rules, but also Italian law.

As a result, it is facing problems with the local courts. Spezia can appeal against the punishment, which would allow them to register reinforcements at least for this season, but it is not certain whether they will do so.
