It was actually over after the first period. The defending silver medallists from Germany lost it to the Swedes by three goals and then fell 1:6 overall.
“From the beginning we took it right from the start. We didn’t give the opponent any space and played for the whole 60 minutes, which created a lot of chances in the attack,” said defender Rasmus Dahlin to the Czech TV cameras after the game.
Our neighbours are really happy. After three games, the Germans are in sixth place with three points. On the other hand, it is true that they also lost to the USA (also 1:6) alongside the Swedes. The games in which they can decide on their progress to the quarter-finals are yet to come.
“It was crazy!”
Still, Harold Kreis’ team is taking it from all sides. On social media, the criticism is mainly about the poor defence. Sixteen goals in three games is a really bad performance. It’s the worst in the whole championship at the moment.
“It was crazy. As a German fan, the game against the Swedes was almost unbearable! They are a very strong team, but they definitely can’t beat us like that,” a German fan fumed on social network X.
“The defence is not working at all. It’s going to be extremely difficult to do well this year. Hopefully Sturm will be fit again for the next game,” added another German supporter, referring to the injured San Jose forward.
In the next stage of the tournament, the Germans will face Latvia (Wednesday), Kazakhstan (Friday), Poland (Saturday) and finally a match against France next Tuesday. Despite their poor start to the championship, the Germans still have plenty of chances to make the top eight.
