Legia fans know whose side they are on
The Russian invasion of Ukrainian territory has been going on for more than a month. In that time, it has become clear who is on whose side. Among the biggest supporters of Ukraine are the Czech Republic and Poland, which is also reflected in sporting events, including football.
The most visible in this respect are the fans of Legia Warsaw, the famous Polish team. Since the beginning of the Russian aggression, they have been spotted on social media more than once. Whether because of clear anti-Russian messages or insults against the Russian ruler Vladimir Putin.
Then on Saturday, they made themselves visible again. They presented themselves with a clear message during the match in Poznan when they hung Putin on their choreo. The Russian president, meanwhile, is wearing a Spartak Moscow jersey.
Shakhtar took the field for the first time since the invasion began
Of course, since the beginning of the invasion, all sports competitions have been suspended on the territory of Ukraine. Ukrainian football clubs are therefore not playing. However, one of the biggest ones, Shakhtar Donetsk, has started an anti-war tour.
It was welcomed by Olympiakos of Greece on its ground in Athens, which won the friendly 1:0. However, the result was not the point. The Shakhtar players were wearing Ukrainian flags with the inscription “STOP WAR” on their jerseys. Instead of names, the jerseys were decorated with the names of Ukrainian cities that resist Russian aggression.
Olympiakos then prepared a strong message, which sent chills down the spine, by placing a significant number of stuffed animals in the seats of Ukrainian children who could have sat in the stands but died because of Russian barbarity.
The Olympiakos management is proud to have been able to host this event. For Shakhtar, then, this is not the last match of this kind. It still has matches at Lechia Gdansk, Fenerbahce Istanbul and Hajduk Split.
