Isn’t that too much? Covington still looking for excuses, compares UFC champion’s father to Hitler after loss

It’s been a few days since Colby Covington failed to make another title match. It didn’t help that he took a swipe at his opponent’s father, Leon Edwards, before the bout. After the loss, he blamed it on everything but himself. And to make matters worse, he continued to make disgusting comments about the champion’s late father.

The date was December 16, 2023, when the UFC 296 gala took place and offered some great fights. There were two title fights as well. The main event catered to champion Leon Edwards and the controversial Colby Covington.

Covington went into action after a long layoff, not having fought in over a year and a half. His participation in the title fight was much debated, but unsurprising nonetheless. It’s as if he’s in a better position with UFC boss Dana White than other stars.

To improve his chances of success in the fight, the American, who is famous for his huge support of Donald Trump, took a dig at Edwards’ father at the pre-tournament press conference. The Englishman threw a bottle at him in return. The disgusting attack was widely reported in the media, with Covington coming under fire from critics.

But it didn’t decide the match for Edwards. On the contrary. Except for the fifth round, he never let his toothless opponent get anywhere. Colby seemed to have lost all his courage and chutzpah from a press conference somewhere on the way to the hotel.

And that he could take a beating? No, he couldn’t. First, he criticized the referee. He said they didn’t give him the win because he supports Trump. Then he complained about allegedly breaking his leg in the first round.

Plus, after the fight, he was given the opportunity to show some decorum. He refused.

Covington continues to be disgusting

Colby Covington appeared on the PBD Podcast where he was asked if he regrets at least the comments he made about Leon Edwards’ father. It’s worth noting that Edwards’ father was shot. While his life wasn’t exactly exemplary, the whole matter is understandably very sensitive for the UFC Welterweight champion.

And what does Covington have to say about it? “Why should I feel bad about saying something about a man who was a criminal and caused a lot of pain in a lot of people’s lives? I’m not going to feel bad about someone who, like Hitler, was a terrible person,” Marca quotes him as saying.

And if he really means the Hitler comparison? “I’m not comparing Edwards’ father to Hitler. I’m just saying they are on the same scale of bad people,” added Covington, who reiterated, among other things, that Edwards’ father killed people and was a drug lord or sex trafficker.
