Is this how a leader behaves? Lewandowski refuses to high-five a teammate, takes it from the fans
Robert Lewandowski is under fire from critics. This time it’s not because of a lack of goals and poor performances, as it has been so far, it’s his behaviour on the pitch. In the match against Deportivo Alaves, he was incomprehensible to the young Lamine Yamal.
Robert Lewandowski is under fire from critics. This time it’s not because of a lack of goals and poor performances, as it has been so far, it’s his behaviour on the pitch. In the match against Deportivo Alaves, he was incomprehensible to the young Lamine Yamal.
He has never experienced a similar situation. Robert Lewandowski ran out of shooting powder, he waited almost two months for a goal and maybe it had a bit of an effect on him.
In the match against Deportivo Alaves, the visitors took the lead in the first minute and could have easily added two more goals in the first half, when striker Samuel Orodin twice went alone on goal.
It was only in the second half that Lewandowski managed to break the scoring spell and equalised in the 53rd minute.
But in the 72nd minute a strange situation emerged. Only 16-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal headed into the penalty area, but instead of passing to Lewandowski, he chose to curl and shoot. The goalkeeper knocked the ball out for a corner.
But the Polish striker was not happy with his tackle as he was expecting a pass. And he made it clear to Yamal. the 16-year-old talent heads towards him and wants a high-five, but Lewandowski refuses and ignores Yamal’s offered hand.
The Barcelona winger looks back at Lewandowski several times with incomprehension, but the Polish striker moves on. And he takes a big hit from the Blaugranas fans.
“Yamal is only 16 years old. This is not how Lewandowski should behave,” wrote a Barcelona fan. “A 35-year-old guy gets angry because a 16-year-old kid decides to go for a corner instead of a pass. That’s crazy,” added a Barcelona fan with the nickname Manu and 200,000 followers on Twitter.
In the Polish striker’s defence – after the winning goal from the penalty, Lewandowski found Yamal and discussed something with him. According to Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo, the two players reconciled and closed the whole situation.
