Is there a coaching transfer bomb looming? PSG is reportedly considering bringing in Mourinho
Jose Mourinho has completed his first year as AS Roma coach. It cannot be said that he has been unsuccessful. In the league, perhaps a little more was expected, but the Roman side is the first Italian club to win a European trophy since Mourinho led Inter Milan to victory in the Champions League. His future, however, is unclear.
AS Roma broke the long wait this year. It last won a trophy in the 2007/08 season, and has waited in vain for another one since then until recently. Jose Mourinho managed to win the European Conference League in his first season in the Italian club.
In addition to Rome’s wait, he ended Italian football’s wait for a European trophy. It was Mourinho who took care of the last one. It was 2011 when Inter Milan won the famous treble.
When the Portuguese arrived in Rome, the management promised a long-term and conceptual work from this move. And apparently they still hope that this will be the case. But a powerful player has stepped in to thwart that.
Indeed, talkSPORT has come out with the information that PSG are strongly considering engaging Mourinho. Although Mauricio Pochettino, the current coach of the Parisian club, is under contract until 2023, he is not expected to keep it. There is not expected to be interest from either side.
The reason is simple. PSG wants to finally win the Champions League and quite possibly the club’s management doesn’t even care anymore about how it will be. Mourinho loves cup competitions, as he proved this year. If the players give in to him and sacrifice for the team, it won’t be impossible.
Mourinho is now to be considered as the main option. However, the question is whether he himself will want to leave Rome. Italy suits him, he enjoys his engagement in Rome, the club is accommodating and trusting him in many ways. In addition, there is a positive atmosphere there.
However, the opportunity to coach the star trio of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé and Neymar? That will be hard to turn down, coupled with virtually unlimited funds for purchases.
