Pep Guardiola’s future at Manchester City? Very uncertain. His current contract at the Citizens expires in 2023 and it doesn’t look like much of an extension. Is the end of a great era approaching? What could be the next destination for this coaching legend?

For now, the Manchester City manager has no plans to stay at the club beyond 2023, when his current contract expires. Instead, the successful coach is planning a break and looking for new challenges. In an interview with Marca, he admitted that he is tempted by a job as a national team coach.

“My next step will be coaching the national team if the opportunity arises. After seven years at this club, I will probably take a break. After such a long time in one place, I will need to rest and slow down a bit. I will evaluate what I have achieved and try to learn from the work of other coaches,” Guardiola told Spanish daily Marca.

“If the chance to lead the national team comes up during my break, I think I would like it. I would love to coach the national team at the European Championships, Copa América or the World Cup. I would like to experience that,” added one of the best coaches of today.

Guardiola took a similar break after leaving Barcelona in 2012. He led the Catalan club for 4 seasons and achieved a lot of great success with them. He won 3 league titles with Barcelona, he also dominated the Champions League twice with Messi and co. After the end of his engagement, he took a one-year break and became the coach of Bayern Munich in 2013.

In 2016, he became the coach of Manchester City. He conquered the entire Premier League and won 3 league titles with the team. Apart from that, he achieved 7 more club trophies. However, the most valuable one for the Champions League winners continues to elude him in this team. Citizens were the closest to achieving this trophy last season. However, they fell short to Chelsea of London in the final.
