The Players Golf Tournament has seen a dramatic increase in prizes. In total, a whopping $20 million will be up for grabs, with the winner receiving $3.6 million. It’s the most money in golf history.
Last year’s edition of The Players was dominated by golfer Justin Thomas. In addition to the prestigious title, he could also enjoy a hefty prize of $2.7 million.
However, since last year’s edition, there has been a dramatic increase. The winner of The Players will earn $3.6 million this year, which is roughly a million more than last year.
In all, a whopping $20 million is at stake. That’s the most in golf history so far.
“We have a lot to celebrate and a lot to be thankful for this week,” PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said of the pay increase, according to the GolfDigest website.
A third player, The Players, will now earn $1 million. Looking at the other side of the standings, the last player will receive $43,000. This is also a very decent amount for the worst finish in the tournament.
The Players’ venture is the fifth major of the season. The current edition is being played in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
