Czech football is used to the fact that the Champions League is something really special and participation in it is more of a sensation than a matter of course. However, with the emergence of the third weakest European Conference league, Czech teams have a problem with qualifying for the Europa League. This year, only Sparta made it there. And how does the current quarter-final comparison of European competitions look according to the ELO club rating?

Slavia, together with the Czech football public, is starting to look forward to a very important double-header. The Seškis will face the strong Feyenoord in the quarter-finals of the ECL. They are not only playing for the semi-finals of the European competition, but also for the Czech coefficient, which could use a few more points.

Now for the actual comparison of the competitions. The group stages are undoubtedly going according to UEFA’s notes, with the Champions League clearly the best quality, followed by the slightly weaker Europa League, and only the third competition (EKL) with only one Czech representative left.

However, there are currently only 8 top teams left in the competitions and here the quality is already really high in each of them. According to the ELO club rating, can the European Conference League at this stage compete with, for example, the Europa League?

According to the club ELO ratings the same order of quality of the competitions still applies. The Champions League is clearly the best. But the difference between it and the Europa League is much more marked than between the Europa League and the third European Conference League.

Only 536 ELO points separate the quality of the EL and EKL quarter-finalists. The LM and EL are separated by an abysmal 1256 points.

There are currently 24 quarter-finalists in all three European competitions. Slavia Prague is one of the weakest teams in the club ELO rating. Specifically, it is in 20th place, but that’s a solid result, don’t you think?

Sešívany can climb much higher in the case of a big success in the EKL. Jindřich Trpišovský’s charges are also ranked better than two teams from the EL (Rangers FC and Braga).
