It’s been a big topic since the summer transfer window. Will Cristiano Ronaldo leave Manchester United? He was rejected by several famous European clubs in the summer, including Napoli and Chelsea in London. However, according to the latest speculation, the Portuguese star is on his way out and Napoli are thought to be very interested.
The daily Marca has recently come up with new speculations that are linked to Ronaldo’s potential departure from Manchester United.
And according to this information, Ronaldo is reportedly even one foot out of the Manchester club.
In fact, as Marca reports, the relationship between him and coach Erik ten Hag is broken and due to the unsatisfactory playing load, the football legend will seek a transfer in the winter transfer window.
But where could Ronaldo be headed? At least two clubs are said to be interested, with Chelsea and Napoli the most serious candidates. The latter is the most interested in the services of the 37-year-old striker.
Summer speculation
During the summer transfer window, there was a lot of talk about Ronaldo moving from Old Trafford to the Italian Serie A, specifically Napoli.
However, there were virtually no serious negotiations between the two clubs and Ronaldo remained in the Red Devils’ organisation even with the disinterest of several other European big clubs.
Now, however, there has been renewed interest from both parties and if Ronaldo and Napoli come to an agreement in the winter, it would mark the return of the Madeira native to Italian turf. Ronaldo has been in Serie A for three years, having defended the colours of Juventus Turin.
He won two championships with the Turin giant. He went on to play 134 games for Juventus across all competitions, scoring 101 goals and assisting a further 22. The word from Napoli is that he was an important reinforcement to help them win the Scudetto.
Will finances be a problem?
In his case, however, the financial aspect will probably be a problem, just like in the summer. Unless Ronaldo relents on his wage terms. As far as weekly wages are concerned, Piotr Zielinski earns the most in Naples with €102,000.
The 37-year-old Portuguese currently earns €411,000, a sum the club cannot afford. And not only this club, in the summer Ronaldo was also rejected by both Milan big clubs.
Why? Besides the huge salary, there is another problem. Ronaldo also cancelled his permanent residence in Italy when he left Juventus, so Napoli or any other Italian suitor could not count on tax relief.
However, according to the latest reports, Ronaldo has understood this reason and it is now reportedly clear to him that if he really wants to change clubs, he will have to take a discount. And a lot of it. So we will have to wait and see in the coming months if Napoli and Ronaldo can find common ground.
