The fifth round of the Premier League brought a showdown between Chelsea and Tottenham. Tottenham had a clear advantage in the first half but failed to score. In the second half N’Golo Kanté came on and thanks to him Chelsea won 3:0.
Thomas Tuchel had nothing but praise for Kanté: “If you have N’Golo Kanté, you have someone everyone is looking for. He would fit into any team. He is the epitome of everything you need in a midfield,” he said at the post-match press conference.
Kanté had missed Chelsea’s previous two games because of ankle problems. However, he was ready for the Spurs game. Although he started on the bench, but after he replaced Mason Mount, the game changed completely and Kanté was the star of the game.
The first half of the game was clearly Tottenham’s. No goal was scored by either side. In the second half, the game changed. Thiago Silva scored the first goal with a header. The second goal was added by Kanté when his shot from distance was crossed behind his own goalkeeper Eric Dier. Antonio Rüdiger added the final touch in stoppage time.
Kanté has been one of the best players in the world for a very long time. He has a great overview of the pitch, he is a huge workhorse, he can be aggressive, he gets the ball, he passes well, he can dribble. Just everything you want in a midfielder, Kante has and can do.
“I see him every day in training and it’s very hard to believe how great he is. He hardly makes any mistakes. He plays great and always gives his all not only during the game but also during training. He is a very unique player,” his coach continued about Kante.
“We had a strong midfield during the second half which consisted of Kanté, Jorginho and Kovacic. N’Golo is N’Golo, just fantastic.”
