In terms of individual performances, Lionel Messi is experiencing a relatively successful period this season considering his age. He has played 31 games in all competitions for the Paris Saint-Germain star team, scoring an impressive 18 goals and 17 assists.
In Qatar, he also led his native country to the World Cup title for the first time in his career. Unfortunately, things went sour at club level when the Galaxy first crashed out of the French Cup and then fell short in the Champions League eighth round to Bayern Munich.
At the moment, they are fighting only in the French top flight, where they are still fearlessly marching towards the championship title.
Yesterday we informed you that Lionel Messi is currently deciding his future at Paris Saint-Germain. His contract in the French capital expires after the season and there is a real chance that he will leave the club after the season.
It is speculation about the Argentine star’s departure from the Parc des Princes that has spurred radical supporters of the club into action. Indeed, according to Spanish media, the hard core of Ultras fans are planning a protest against their star player.
“This Sunday we will boo Messi,” a leading fan representative told Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo. “His salary is too high compared to what he offers on the pitch. We don’t want him to continue,” explained the fans’ group’s stance.
Although at the beginning of the month Messi hinted at extending his stay in Paris, after the club’s exit from the millionaire Champions League, things began to go the other way. PSG host fifth-placed Rennes at the weekend, but protests may have to be postponed.
Indeed, the same publication reported today that Messi has not trained with the team for as yet undisclosed reasons. Will the Argentine striker stay in France? Only time will tell.
