He has lost three of his last four fights and many are already writing him off as past his prime. But Conor McGregor refuses. He wants to be one of the top fighters when he returns from injury. He’s already picked his opponent.

Conor McGregor has already had three fights with Dustin Poirier, with the scores looking positive for the latter. The Irishman doesn’t like it though, as he broke his leg badly in the second fight and lost because of it.

According to experts and personalities in MMA, McGregor would have lost even if he hadn’t been injured. However, the man who popularized the sport disagrees. He immediately talked about a fourth fight.

But now he’s gone a step further. Poirier is set for a title fight with champion Charles Oliveira in December, and the Irishman would like to face the winner of that fight.

“I will face whoever is the lightweight champion by the time I come back. That will be my next fight,” McGregor wrote on social media.

Should Poirier not become champion, McGregor would be just as happy to fight him afterwards, as the trilogy is said to not be the end of their fights. The American fighter doesn’t have the slightest problem with that, he says he would be happy to fight his rival again.

However, there is a big debate about whether McGregor deserves a title fight. He has won one fight at lightweight and lost three others. The weight division is very well populated and there could be several contenders for the title.
