Is he crazy? The shame continues, Khamzat Chimaev didn’t weigh 3.5 kg and the fight with Nate Diaz might not happen after all!
After UFC management was forced to cancel a press conference ahead of UFC 279 due to a mass brawl, they now have another issue to deal with. That’s because Khamzat Chimaev missed the Welterweight weight limit by more than 3.5 kg at the official weigh-ins!

The madness at UFC 279 continues! First, UFC promoter Dana White ended the press conference early due to a mass brawl provoked by Chechen brawler Khamzat Chimaev. He was settling scores with Kevin Holland, who was defended by the team around Nate Diaz.
The crazy scene, which is unprecedented in the history of the organization, was condemned by many experts from the fight scene and other UFC fighters. The situation was eventually calmed down and according to available information, no one was seriously injured.
However, the wrinkles on the forehead of the UFC boss are made rather by the official weigh-in of the main actors of the gala. The biggest star of the tournament, Khamzat Chimaev, showed huge unprofessionalism when he weighed a whopping 3.89 kg more than the legal limit.
Moreover, Chimaev publicly downplayed the situation. “It’s not that bad,” he said with a smile at the weigh-in right after he got off the scale. He also turned many fans and fellow fighters against him by sharing a photo of himself with Darren Till with the ironic caption that the Briton was to blame for his failure to make weight. The latter has often been ridiculed in the past for his weight problems.
Most UFC fighters have condemned Chimaev’s behavior and unprofessionalism. Thus, the rising star of the world’s top league is experiencing a steep fall after much hype. Just yesterday he was one step away from a title opportunity, today everything is different.
Of course, the Chechen fighter living in Sweden will have a substantial part of his paycheck stolen by the organization’s management, but only if the fight takes place at all. In fact, there are rumors behind the scenes that Nate Diaz may not take the fight with Chimaev.
We would then lose the main event of the numbered card, which would be a catastrophic fact for the UFC after the press conference. It’s possible that the card gets shuffled. We’ll keep an eye on the situation, of course.
