Lionel Messi is already a PSG player, and he has also made a successful debut in the French league. Barcelona said they could not afford to keep him. But according to the boss of Spain’s top competition, that is not the case.
The Argentine star has left Barcelona after 21 long years. In Catalonia, Lionel Messi became the best player not only in the club’s history, but quite possibly in the history of world football.
His departure understandably hurt the Catalan giant’s fans and will continue to hurt for a long time to come. Barcelona then claim that they could not afford Messi’s continuation at the club financially.
But Javier Tebas, the head of Spain’s top competition, says that is not the case. Barcelona, he says, could have prevented the departure of its biggest star. He has communicated with the club’s president, Joan Laporta, even telling him in person. But the Argentine left anyway.
“If there was another reason for Messi’s departure, I can’t say. But finances were not the problem. I think when Barcelona publish the financial figures, it will be proven,” Tebas is clear.
“I respect the club’s decision, but one has to tell things as they are,” explained the La Liga boss on why he commented on Messi’s departure.
