Ireland vs. Ukraine: Preview and betting tips
Ukraine will play their first game after failing to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar on Wednesday when they travel to play Ireland, who are also having a less than ideal season. What to expect from the match and what to bet on?
Ireland fell somewhat surprisingly to Armenia on Saturday, making for a very poor start to the Nations League. Moreover, it has won only four of its last ten games and compared to previous generations, the current one is putting in a really poor performance.
Ukraine faced a tough play-off for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar in June. After knocking out the Scots, they crashed out to the Welsh despite playing better. In addition, the referee failed to whistle a rather obvious penalty kick after a foul by Ben Davies.
The Irish have relied on goals from Callum Robinson The West Bromwich striker has scored eight goals and assisted nine times this season. Nathan Collins has made his mark in a Burnley jersey, the talented stopper even finding himself nominated for the Premier League’s best player for April.
It is the mainstays of Ukraine that are strikers Andriy Yarmolenko from West Ham and Roman Yaremchuk from Benfica, while Ruslan Malinovskyi from Atalanta Bergamo and Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City are operating in the midfield.
Ireland are not doing well at all in attack, scoring more than once in only three of their last ten games.
Ukraine, on the other hand, are firing, scoring at least two goals in three of their last four games, failing only against Wales.
Given Ukraine’s excellent performances in the barrage matches, I expect them not to lose in Ireland.
