The first leg of the Champions League semi-final is scheduled for Tuesday, with Inter Milan defending their two-goal lead over city rivals AC from a week ago at the San Siro. What to expect from the match and what to bet on?

Inter are very comfortable, having won their last seven games, are within reach of the final and will clearly qualify for the Champions League from Serie A. From third place, they have a four-point lead on fifth-placed AC with three rounds to go.

AC are in a completely different mood. It has won only one of its last five games, and even lost the last two. They have dropped down to fifth in the league table, with fourth-placed Lazio four points better off.

Inter’s key figures

The home side rely on Edin Džeko, at 39 years old he is still a star, specifically netting 14 goals and assisting five times. Italian midfielder Nicolo Barella reigns supreme in midfield, scoring eight goals in addition to nine assists.

AC’s key figures

The visitors stand on the performance of Theo Hernandez, the French back has struck four times and assisted six times. Portuguese international Rafael Leao is a threat from the wing, the author of 13 goals and 13 assists missed the opening game with a minor injury but should now be available.

What to expect and what to bet on?

Inter’s attacking power has kicked in, scoring at least twice in seven of their last eight games, even giving Verona six. With 66 shots, it has the second best attack in Serie A, bettered only by sovereign Napoli.

AC, on the other hand, are confident at the back, scoring more than once in only three of their last 11 games. For example, it has received a total of one single goal from Napoli in three confrontations in April.

Considering AC’s long-standing good defensive performance, the likely return of the healed Leo and the result of the first leg which does not force Inter to rush forward, I think AC will not lose.
