Iniesta praises Barcelona’s progress under Xavi. He is clear he will win the title this season. What does he say about Messi?
Andrés Iniesta is enjoying the last years of his career in Japan, but he is already thinking about his next steps in life. Understandably, he is still keeping an eye on how his beloved Barcelona is doing, as well as former teammates Xavi and Lionel Messi.
Andrés Iniesta is enjoying the last years of his career in Japan, but he is already thinking about his next steps in life. Understandably, he is still keeping an eye on how his beloved Barcelona is doing, as well as former teammates Xavi and Lionel Messi.
The legendary midfielder has been with the Japanese side Vissel Kobe since 2018 and hasn’t forgotten to collect success there either. Although he has only won the Japanese Cup and the Super Cup, he is constantly proving himself to be a spectacular player.
He also manages to keep an eye on his beloved Barcelona, who are currently leading the Spanish league. This is all thanks to Xavi, Iniesta’s former teammate, who previously gained experience at Saudi Arabian side Al-Sadd.
“I think Xavi is doing a great job. The progress of the club under his leadership is positive. Of course, the titles are the decisive factor, but the progress to achieve them so far has been great. There are still enough games left, but I believe Barcelona will win the title,” Iniesta expressed to Marca.
Meanwhile, Xavi is facing criticism due to the fact that Barcelona are no longer in the Champions League, but only in the Europa League. There has also been talk for a while about his possible dismissal. However, this has not yet happened and now it does not look likely.
Outside of Barcelona, however, Iniesta was also watching another former teammate. Lionel Messi. He walked away with the title with Argentina at the World Cup in Qatar and also won the best player of the tournament award.
“It wasn’t necessary for me for Leo to win the World Cup to see him as the best player in history. He would have been the best whether he had the title or not. Those who didn’t perceive him that way before will find an excuse to still not perceive him that way now,” Iniesta is clear.
According to Iniesta, Argentina deserved to win the World Cup. For Messi, he then highlighted how he stood up to a difficult situation and the immense pressure he faced.
