Inhuman! Carlos Alcaraz played an incredible ball in the first round of Wimbledon and earned a standing ovation
Spain not only cherishes the most successful tennis player in history, but also arguably the greatest young talent. Only 19 years old, the tennis player considered to be a future world number one once again proved his exceptionalism in the first round of Wimbledon.
Spain not only cherishes the most successful tennis player in history, but also arguably the greatest young talent. Only 19 years old, the tennis player considered to be a future world number one once again proved his exceptionalism in the first round of Wimbledon.
Against Jan-Lennard Struff, Alcaraz had more problems than expected. The German tennis player played great, but “Carlito’s” performance was not ideal. After 6-4, 5-7 and 6-4 sets, Struff took a 2:1 set lead.
The fourth set went to a tiebreak, where the young Spaniard was down 0: 2 and in a critical situation. But once again he showed how much he is working on the mental side of his game. And that he likes such situations under pressure and he seeks them out a lot.
Struff, in fact, drove him into a difficult situation a couple of times after his serve, until a perfect forehand drove him completely off the court. With a backhand chop into the exposed part of the court, he wanted to finish the exchange, but Alcaraz kicked his turbo legs, finished the ball and with a one-handed backhand cross, won the exchange for himself.
Almost the entire Court 1 stood to their feet and applauded Alcaraz in delight. The El Palmar native then turned the tiebreak around, leveling at 2-2, and won the fifth set 6-4 to advance to the next round.
Once again, we can look forward to what the seventh player on the ATP rankings will show us. Dutchman Talloon Griekspoor will try to stop him on Wednesday at 12 noon.
