The last round of the San Marino Grand Prix, or the 14th round of this season’s MotoGP season, will undoubtedly go down in history. One of the closest finishes we’ve seen to date.
Four riders battled for the top spot during the race, namely Francesco Bagnaia, Enea Bastianini, Maverick Viñales and Luca Marini. However, the latter lost a lot of momentum on lap 20, with Viñales also dropping out of the battle for the win after a few more minutes.
So it was clear to all involved that Bagnaia and Bastianini, or future teammates, would share the win. Bastianini, nicknamed “La Bestia”, will join the Ducati factory team next season, replacing the current number two Jack Miller.
However, Bastianini made a mistake on the last lap of the San Marino Grand Prix and it seemed that he would not be able to close the gap on the leader Bagnaia. But the opposite was true and the battle between the future teammates lasted until the very end.
As you can see in the attached video below, Bastianini literally shot out of the last corner and attacked Bagnaiu even more on the home straight!
However, the Italian rider in the service of Ducati held on to his first place, albeit by just 34,000 seconds!
Bagnaia thus won for the fourth time in a row and rewrites the history of the Ducati racing team. The team has never won four races in a row in its history. Bagnaia has also reduced the lead of championship leader Quartara to 30 points and the battle for the championship will be very exciting.
