Liverpool won an important game at the weekend at Crystal Palace. Andrew Robertson contributed to the 3-1 result with assists on the first and second Reds goals. Fabinho added an insurance goal from a penalty in the end.
Robertson with two assists secured the second place in the Premier League among the best assistants among defenders. He leapfrogged Graeme Le Saux, who had his greatest success as a Chelsea player.
The Scottish international already has 46 assists to his name, collected in just 206 games. He hasn’t had a bad season since his transfer from Hull and is clearly the best left-back of the last five years.
The top spot goes to Everton’s rival legend Leighton Baines, who has seven more goal assists to his name. Robertson, however, is 27 years old and if he stays at Liverpool he is likely to record seven goals.
The incredible quality at the edges of Liverpool’s defence is evidenced by the fact that Trent Alexander Arnold is fourth in the table. Still only twenty-three years old, the right-back is the most productive flanker in terms of assists in the last three seasons combined.
Robertson and Arnold also feature in the ranking of the best passers of this season’s Premier League. The young Englishman leads the table with ten assists, Robertson is third with eight behind another teammate, Mohamed Salah.
