Football clubs around the world, take notes, that’s how it’s done. For Villarreal are showing how to treat loyal fans in their sensational Champions League run.
Villarreal is having a dream season. As Europa League winners, they are in a tough Champions League group with Manchester United, Atalanta and Young Boys Bern. However, it managed to advance from second place and continues to shock.
He knocked out Juventus in the eighth round and even toppled Bayern Munich, one of the best teams in the history of the competition, in the quarterfinals. But just before the clash with the German colossus, Villarreal had already won the favour of several fans around the world.
It wasn’t trying to make a profit on the Champions League quarter-final, offering its season ticket holders tickets for 20 euros, or 500 CZK (the most expensive ones were 40 and 60 euros). People under 25 and pensioners even had a 50% discount. The boisterous atmosphere at Estádio de la Céramica subsequently pushed the Yellow Submarine to a 1: 0 victory.
And the club from the town of 50,000 continues to follow the same philosophy. In the Champions League semi-finals, they welcome Liverpool, but the prices are ridiculous given the opponent, the part of the competition and Villarreal’s historic success.
A Los Groguets season ticket holder can buy a ticket for the semi-final with Liverpool for just 25 euros (610,- CZK). Tickets for the most expensive sectors cost 50 and 70 euros. There is still a 50% discount for under 25s and pensioners.
But for the most loyal ones, “El submarino amarillo” has prepared one more unique treat. It is organizing a trip to the first match in Liverpool and will provide the flight there and back, transport to the airport in Valencia, all transportation in England, the ticket to the match and travel insurance. And all this for only 300 euros, or just over 7,000 crowns.
That’s an absolutely great price for this once in a lifetime experience for all Villarreal fans. So the support for Unaie Emery’s charges will be strong at Anfield Road, with huge interest shown in the trip.
Villarreal know how to value their fans. And they in turn know how to appreciate their club, because even in difficult moments and in defeats, the Estadio de la Céramica is not booed, on the contrary, the players have constant support. A club from a small town could set an example for much bigger giants.
