Plzeň won the opening match of the second round of the Champions League, beating Helsinki 2-1 in Finland and adding important points to the Czech coefficient in addition to the advantage for the rematch. Tomáš Chorý and Jan Kopic scored.
Already in the fifth minute, captain Miro Tenho played with his hand in the penalty area and a penalty was called. Tomáš Chorý took the ball and converted the penalty. The game was calm after that, without any big chances, with a slight advantage of the home team.
It was not until the 35th minute that Viktoria had a double chance. Lukáš Kalvach’s shot was blocked by the Finnish defence, and then Tomáš Chorý, alone in front of the goalkeeper, passed instead of shot and thwarted the opportunity.
Lukáš Hejda scored immediately afterwards, but his goal was disallowed for offside. Before the break, Bojan Radulović, the home striker, got angry. In the 38th minute he was saved fantastically by Jindřich Staněk, three minutes later he hit the crossbar.
After the change of sides, Helsinki took advantage of the pressure and equalised. Staněk saved the first chance, but Radulović made no mistake from the rebound.
Pilsen quickly took the lead back. In the 57th minute, Jan Kopic struck from the edge of the box and gave the home goalkeeper no chance.
The end of the match did not offer any more chances and Plzeň took a one-goal lead into the rematch at the Doosan Arena. The game will be played next week.
