Sparta failed to win the Champions League in the summer, falling to AS Monaco in the third round. In the Champions League they would have earned a completely different money, but given the tough opponents, advancing to the group stage was very unrealistic.
However, thanks to their progression through Rapid Vienna, Sparta secured the Europa League. This is very important for the club, not only for the players to be able to compete with tough opponents, but also for the money flowing into the club’s coffers.
Sparta collected 95 million crowns for qualifying for the group stage. The club’s coefficient takes into account its achievements over the last decade and out of 32 participants, the team from Letna came 16th, collecting a bonus of 58.3 million crowns.
And what did Letna dig up in the group? The first draw in Brondby landed 5.5 million crowns in the Letná offices. For the win against Rangers, UEFA then sent 16.4 million crowns to Spartan’s account.
Sparta will have one last game to increase their earnings. What’s at stake in the last game against Brondby?
If they beat the Danish team, they will collect another CZK 16.4 million. A draw would bring in CZK 5.5 million. If Hložek and co. do not lose, they will advance to the knockout stage of the Conference League and would collect another CZK 7.8 million.
In the Conference League, the Spartans would earn additional bonuses if they advance. So there is still a lot at stake against Brondby.
