I’m not a saviour and my surname is no miracle, warns new coach of struggling Villarreal

Villarreal hasn’t had a season like this for a long time. In recent years, the Yellow Submarine has become accustomed to finishing in the top seven and regular European Cups. But now Villarreal are only 14th and have changed coach for the second time. But Marcelino points out that he is no saviour.
Three years ago, Villarreal reached the Europa League final, where they beat Manchester United and recorded the first ever trophy in the club’s history.
A year later, Unaia Emery’s bunch shocked even more when they reached the Champions League semi-finals, knocking out both Juventus and Bayern along the way, and even managed to make up a two-goal deficit in their home rematch with Liverpool in the semi-final.
But things started to go downhill last season after the departure of Unaie Emery. Villarreal still held on to fifth place, but have struggled immensely so far in the new season.
They have only managed 12 points from 13 games and are only 14th in the table. And for the second time, the management has run out of patience. At the beginning of September, coach Quique Setien was sacked and replaced by Pacheta.
But he didn’t get much space either. After two months and a record of 2 wins, 3 draws and 3 defeats, he was also fired. The new coach was Marcelino, who had managed Athletic Bilbao, Valencia and Villarreal.
He is seen by fans as a saviour who will lead Villarreal out of the unexpected misery they are facing this season. Marcelino, however, is trying to tame his emotions.
“My name is Marcelino Garcia, my name is not Salvador (saviour) and my surname is not Milagros (miracle). I come in all humility and with great enthusiasm,” Marcelino assured the press conference.
