I’m not a robot, we can’t compare my two titles, Verstappen said. What did he say about winning a second title?
With four races left in the season, Max Verstappen has already confirmed his championship title and fulfilled his clear goal. To defend his championship from last season. At the same time, he says the two titles are not comparable. What did he say about his season?
With four races left in the season, Max Verstappen has already confirmed his championship title and fulfilled his clear goal. To defend his championship from last season. At the same time, he says the two titles are not comparable. What did he say about his season?
The US Grand Prix, the Mexican Grand Prix, the Brazilian Grand Prix and the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix are the races that F1 has yet to complete this season.
Who will win these races is unclear, but one thing is certain. The next four Grands Prix will no longer be contested for the world championship.
The Dutchman Verstappen has already won the title in Japan, defending his championship from last season when he won the drivers’ championship after a very controversial battle against Lewis Hamilton in the last race in Abu Dhabi.
Verstappen now has 366 points and is 113 points clear of second-placed Sergio Perez, with the Red Bull driver having the season of his life and potentially breaking several other records.
Red Bull Racing is also leading the Constructors’ Cup, with the Verstappen-Pérez pairing already on 619 points. The Austrian team will almost certainly break Mercedes’ eight-year hegemony.
Two titles, but both very different
“I’ve already said that this year is different because of the whole season. I mean, it was already very special for me last year when I won the title. But this year it was very special for me because the cars were very different,” said Verstappen after winning the title, quoted by Racing News 365.
“Also the way we worked as a team was great. We had a tough start to the season (with DNFs in Bahrain and Australia allowing Leclerc to take a 46-point lead in the championship after three races).
After that I think we worked really well as a team, we hardly made any mistakes, but you can’t compare the two years because there are so many differences,” explained the double champion.
I’m not a robot
Verstappen then dismissed claims that he raced better in 2022. That was because he believed his good performances were part of a process of constantly trying to improve.
In his view, it’s about trying to minimise risk, which based on his words, he has done well throughout the season.
“I think you should always look back at the season and say, what can I do better? You’re always trying to be a better driver, but you’re not a robot and you make mistakes, just like everyone else,” Verstappen concluded.
