Francis Ngannou is a great fighter, after all, he didn’t become UFC heavyweight champion by accident. However, fans are sorry that a fight with the best fighter in history, Jon Jones, never happened and probably won’t happen.
The African fighter did have a new contract offer on the table, which was very generous financially, but it just didn’t include everything the champion was asking for. He wanted freedom, the opportunity to box. He didn’t get it.
So he signed on with the PFL brand, which, in addition to paying Ngannou big money, pays two million to each of his opponents, and which allowed him to box Tyson Fury, the world champion.
There’s a lot of talk that Ngannou is the clear winner in this whole situation. Will the PFL ever get back the money that was put into the whole thing? That’s the question. Even in the UFC, the African’s name hasn’t been breaking PPV records, plus there are no attractive opponents outside of the UFC.
So Ngannou has some freedom and will also make a lot of money. The fight with Fury is officially announced, it will take place in the fall and the MMA fighter has a lot to look forward to. He may not be the favourite, but if he doesn’t heat up with a win, a fat account will make up for it.
In fact, according to his manager Marquel Martin, he will make many times more money for this fight than he has made in his entire seven-year UFC career. “It’s going to change his life. It’ s something we planned for and how we visualized it,” he told MMA Fighting.
According to Bloody Elbow, he earned roughly $3.5 million in the UFC over seven years after factoring in paydays, bonuses, commercials and PPV percentages. So after converting to crowns, Ngannou has earned over 74 million in 14 fights.
The MMA Pack website reports that Ngannou will earn $10 million for his fight with Fury.
