There are rumours in the media that if coach Gareth Southgate can lead England to their first European Championship title, Queen Elizabeth II will put a special reward on the table! It is the coach and some of the players who could be knighted.

England have never lost a championship. The only team it couldn’t beat was Scotland, who it drew 0-0. Gareth Southgate’s men have beaten Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Ukraine and Denmark.

If the English can beat the strong Italians at home (Wembley), the possibility of being among the top knights is reportedly in play. Coach Southgate could be the passport, but there is also talk of several players.

Harry Kane, Harry Maguire and also Raheem Sterling are among the most rumoured names.

Words from Southgate’s mouth before the semi-final extra time were also leaked to the English media. They were interpreted by substitute Kieran Trippier.

We are in a good position, keep playing the same way. We are playing well, we just have to be patient with the ball and without the ball, our chances will come. Be brave all the time.”

England eventually decided in extra time after a controversial penalty converted by Harry Kane.

England won by a narrow margin of 2-1. At the end of extra time, Albion players were still enjoying possession and, with the fans cheering them on, broke the Euro 2020 record for consecutive passes (54).

Even if England can win the whole tournament, do they deserve to be knighted? What do you think?
