Iceland vs. Luxembourg: Preview and betting tips

Euro 2024 qualifying in Germany continues on Friday. Iceland will take on Luxembourg in a clash of two national teams to keep their hopes of direct qualification alive
Iceland beat Bosnia and Herzegovina in the last round, yet have been very unsuccessful in qualifying so far. With seven points they are seven points behind the second place. So if they don’t win on Friday, they can forget about qualification.
Luxembourg has been a pleasant surprise in this group so far. With ten points, it is still in the running for qualification, having beaten Bosnia and Iceland in the past and drawing in Slovakia at the start of qualifying.
Iceland’s key figures
Offensive midfielder Arnór Sigurdsson has been a guest at English second division side Blackburn this season, scoring four times in five games. The home side’s biggest talent is Hákon winger Arnar Haraldsson, who is settling into the Lille line-up.
Luxembourg’s key figures
The centre of midfield is dominated by Bundesliga Mainz mainstay Leandro Barreiro, the most expensive player in this small country. Anthony Moris, who has spent his entire career in Belgium, dominates between the three poles. He is currently captain of Union Saint Gilloise.
What to expect and what to bet on?
Apart from the demolition of the amateurs from Liechtenstein (7: 0), Iceland is really struggling in attack. It has scored more than one goal in the last 14 games only against Liechtenstein, otherwise it is an average of only 0.63 goals per game.
Luxembourg, on the other hand, is surprisingly good in attack, scoring more than once in three of the last four games. It only failed against Portugal, while Iceland, for example, scored three in September.
Considering Iceland’s offensive woes, Luxembourg’s good offense and the fact that the young Icelandic team is inexperienced, I think the underdog will not lose in northern Europe.
Betting tip | Luxembourg to lose
