Coach Paulo Fonseca has the biggest challenge of his career ahead of him. At the age of 51, he will become the manager of the Italian club AC Milan. So far he has worked at clubs such as Lille, AS Roma, Shakhtar Donetsk and FC Porto. He replaces Stefano Pioli, who won one title with the team.
The information was announced by both the club and Zlatan Ibrahimovic at a press conference. However, the Swedish legend did not only talk about the new coach, but also about his role or ambitions and plans for the Rossoneri.
It is worth mentioning that it is not known exactly what role the until recently outstanding striker has at San Siro, however, it seems he is not having an easy time. “After six months I have grey hair, which means I’m working a lot,” jokes the AC Milan icon.
He has joined the club’s management team, saying that a successful project must be devised. Ibrahimovic, after all, hates to lose. And he is in charge of that project. But as he admits, it’s not a one-man show. He’s working with the owner and the entire management of the club.
Ibrahimovic talks about AC Milan’s plans
For example, Julen Lopetegui or Antonio Conte have been linked with joining AC Milan. The former has signed for West Ham, the latter for Napoli. Paulo Fonseca, however, is apparently the man the Rossoneri were looking for.
“It was a deliberate choice. We studied how he trains, how he prepares for matches. After five years, we needed something new. We want to play dominant football. Fonseca is the right man, we believe in him,” Ibrahimovic let slip.
“The next step is to strengthen the team to be more competitive. We want to win trophies in Italy and in Europe because we are AC Milan. We have to play for trophies every year. AC doesn’t just win, it makes history. Whoever joins the club must have the same ambition,” says the legendary footballer.
He sees a positive future for the club. He says that everyone in the management is united in working for the club, not to fulfil personal goals. They are trying to do their best. Even in the transfer market, although the Rossoneri cannot compete financially with everyone.
Ibrahimovic then pleased the fans by saying that AC Milan will keep their stars Theo Hernández, Rafael Leão or Mike Maignan. He said the club doesn’t need to sell, plus it can bring in good players.
And that Inter won the title? “I didn’t suffer because of that. That’s what losers do. You talk to the winner, so Inter just gave us the energy to work even harder,” Zlatan concluded the topic.
