Sešívani won the match on Turkish soil with a well-deserved 3:2 victory and will take a light cushion into the rematch. The experienced Ibrahim Traoré sent Slavia into the lead, scoring into the open goal just before the half-time break. But what preceded the goal was a grotesque spectacle!

What should the opening goal of a Conference Europa League knockout stage double-header look like? What does the average fan imagine? It’s a tactically tied battle, so what could the opening goal have come from? From a standard situation, after a great individual action or after a nice combination.

But the goal of the Slavic midfielder was definitely not like that. Anyway, it was interesting and even funny, and it earned a lot of attention outside the Czech Republic and Turkey.

It was shared on the social network Twitter by the gigantic Out of Context Football website, which normally shares funny football videos. The page is followed by over a million users.

Before we jump to any conclusions, we need to recap Traoré’s goal itself. It all started with a very bad shot by Oscar Dorley. At first, it looked like this shot was going to go somewhere in the 8th row, but it ended up on the edge of the box.

After a few bounces, the ball came back to Oscar, who didn’t shoot and passed it to the better positioned Srdjan Plavsic. The latter headed the ball towards goal and the ball eventually ended up on the bar of Bayindir’s goal, but he jumped for the ball and left the net uncovered.

The ball bounced off the post to an unguarded Traore and he fired it into the net. Anyway, it wasn’t the best finish, missing by centimetres and Traoré could have hit Szalai, who was filling in for Bayindir on the goal line. Well, see for yourself!

Public reaction

This funny goal was seen by 1.6 million Twitter users in a very short time. Fans of rival Turkish teams, but also from the rest of the world joined the discussion.

“Would you like to have a cup of tea?” said a Galatasaray fan to the defending Fenerbahce players.

A Slavic supporter responded in English

“Beautiful, rehearsed, wanted action leading to a goal, ” wrote another Slavic fan with exaggeration.

The foreigners are mainly reacting to the defensive skills of the Fenerbahce players. The post is littered with various meme images and there are also “analysts” who have honestly circled the undefending players of the Turkish team.
