Jiří Procházka revealed the next milestone in his fighting career. After winning the UFC championship belt in June, he wants to become the absolute number one in the entire UFC!
Jiri Prochazka shocked the mixed martial arts world in June. The native of Hostěradice, Moravia, managed to win the UFC welterweight championship belt after only three fights in the world’s top league.
And that’s not all! The Moravian samurai reveals even bigger goals. Currently the number one welterweight wants to become the best MMA fighter on the planet ever. How does he want to achieve this?
The fact that the UFC is a league of champions, where the best fighters in the world fight, probably doesn’t need to be mentioned. The weight class rankings have their champions, but above all the rankings is one that counts fighters across all weight classes.
The king of the so-called pound-for-pound rankings is currently featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski. Jiri Prochazko is tenth in this ranking for now, but he is aiming much higher.
“I want to become the best fighter in the world,” Procházka told Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour podcast. “That doesn’t mean being a champion in one weight class, I just want to be the number one P4P fighter,” he said.
“That’s also why I’m not going to worry about who my next opponent will be,” he explained. “I just have to beat whoever,” he said, aware of the obstacles he has to overcome on his way to his dream.
“That is my goal now and I will do anything for it, ” he said. “Now I understand better the path I have chosen, because I love the feeling when I can improve my mind, my body and the techniques in the fight,” added the champion, who will face a rematch with Brazilian Teixeira in December.
