He had several bidders, but Real Madrid was the winner. Young Turkish talent Arda Güler has already been officially confirmed as the Spanish big club’s new signing, with the Ankara native explaining why he chose the 14-time Champions League winner among them all.
Real Madrid officially confirmed the arrival of the young but very talented Turkish footballer on Friday noon.
Arda Güler moves to the Santiago Bernabeu from Fenerbahce. The transfer fee is €20 million, plus another potential €10 million in bonuses. In addition, the contract will also include a clause for a 20% share of any resale.
The 18-year-old midfielder has signed a six-year contract in the Spanish capital. There were several interested parties for the Ankara native’s services, including Barcelona and Inter Milan. However, Güler chose Real Madrid. Why?
For a very simple reason. Güler wants to become a club legend, viewing the 14-time Champions League winners as the best team in football history.
“First of all, I would like to thank my whole family and all the people who have contributed to this moment. I also want to thank the club president for his kind words. I also want to become a club legend like Di Stéfano,” Güler told the club’s website.
“I repeat that there were many clubs that made offers. But as soon as Real Madrid came along, all the others lost their importance,” he added.
Güler at Fenerbahce
The 18-year-old young talent broke into the Fenerbahce first team in the 2021/22 season, having already secured a place in the starting line-up last year. During that time, Güler made 51 starts for Istanbul with nine goals and 12 assists.
With Fenerbahce, he recently won the Turkish Cup winner’s trophy. In addition, he has also reaped individual success on the national field. In fact, he recently hit the net for Wales in a national team jersey, becoming the youngest ever goalscorer for Turkey.
