Sparta managed to beat Danish Brondby at home and will face the Conference Europa League play-offs in the spring. What did Dávid Hancko, the scorer of the opening goal and one of the best players on the pitch, say after the winning game?

Sparta needed at least a point against Brondby if they wanted to advance to the spring playoffs in the Europa Conference League, which is secured by third place in the Europa League group.

It did, Dávid Hancko scored from a direct kick at the end of the first half, the opponent then got worse and once Adam Hložek adjusted to 2: 0 in the second half, it was done.

“It was a European level match, a tough game. We knew what we wanted to do, it was tough from the beginning. The terrain was also not easy in the weather. But it went according to how we prepared and how we wanted to play – to be solid defensively and dangerous up front. It worked out perfectly and I’m very happy for that,” said Hancko in an interview with the club website.

In the match he managed to score a beautiful goal from a direct kick when he sent the ball to the goalkeeper’s side, but he didn’t have time to react to the shot after the tackle.

“I told the boys to extend the wall, then I told Krejda to go behind the wall, that I would shoot like this so that no one from the opponent would be there. The goalie then took a step behind the wall and he couldn’t reach there anymore. After those shots, when I kept trying to go over the wall, I got it around,” he added.

Sparta must now prepare for its home league game against Bohemians on Sunday, then on Monday it will watch the draw to determine its play-off opponent.
