Barbora Krejcikova showed a very good performance in her opening match at the US Open and deservedly advanced to the second round. She conceded only four games to her Mexican opponent Contreras and after the match she was beaming from her performance progression.

In the opening round of the US Open Grand Slam, Barbara Krejcik’s lottery draw assigned her opponent to Mexican Fernanda Contreras. The latter is ranked 200th in the WTA rankings and had to go through qualifying for the main part of the tournament.

Krejčíková was definitely the favourite, but the Czech tennis player had to deal with both a rangy opponent and the strong support of Contreras from the stands. It was also unclear in what form Krejčíková arrived in the USA.

But Krejcikova left nothing to chance and went for the win from the first game. She dominated the first set in half an hour, giving her opponent a canary. The second set was more evenly matched, but even after that the Czech enjoyed a 6:4 victory.

“I hope this win will help me. I think my performance is improving now. In the last weeks we have been working on going up. I believe I am on the right track,” Barbora Krejcikova told Czech TV.

Krejčíková, who is the 23rd seed in the tournament, has advanced to the second round, where she will face Aleksandra Kruničová of Serbia. In her duel, she also got past a qualifier, namely Russia’s Avanesyanova.

Krejcikova will play Krunicova on Thursday, September 1. The Czech player is also the favourite in this duel, especially since she showed great form in the first round.
