Slavia will welcome Legia Warsaw at home on Thursday. In their squad we can find Czech national player and former Slavia player Tomáš Pekhart. What did he say at the pre-match conference?
Pekhart is a Slavia alumnus, but the fans will not welcome him too much. Ten years ago he was wearing the jersey of the rival from Letná.
The national striker won one title with Slavia, then decided to try a foreign engagement at Tottenham, where he did not make a significant impact.
“Thank you to Slavia, I grew up here, then I had a chance to win one more title. Then our paths diverged. But I definitely have great memories of Slavia.”
For Pekhart, Thursday’s game will be even more special because he lives only a few blocks from the stadium. But he will be going as a member of the visiting team.
“Sitting here now, it’s a special feeling. To be back at club level back in Prague and I live three minutes from Eden. But I’m looking forward to the game and I believe we can get a good result.”
Legia have not been playing regularly in the European Cup group stages in recent years, although ten years ago it was a must for them to qualify for at least the Europa League.
“Of course, for Legia, the goal every year is always to become champions and play in the European Cups. The last four years it hasn’t been possible. At the beginning of the season there is always a big turnover of players in Legia and I think that is the main reason. Theteam has to be ready from the first round, from the first game it has to be together,” Pekhart said in the end.
