I feel the best in my career, I will be at the top in 3-4 years, Dvorak is clear before the important fight in the UFC. When could he fight for the title?
David Dvorak will be in his fourth fight in the UFC on Saturday, facing the toughest opponent of his career so far. A win could move him closer to the top five of the flyweight rankings. What did the Czech fighter say at the press conference?
David Dvorak will be in his fourth fight in the UFC on Saturday, facing the toughest opponent of his career so far. A win could move him closer to the top five of the flyweight rankings. What did the Czech fighter say at the press conference?
David Dvorak is currently a top ten UFC flyweight, but his ambitions and goals are higher. The organization itself knows it, and it is counting on the Czech fighter. It even included him among the fighters worth watching in 2022. It has named him as the black horse of its weight division.
On Saturday, he will face the toughest fight of his career when he takes on No. 7 flyweight Matheus Nicolau. “When I win this fight, I’ll be close to the top five, but then every fight could be inside the top five and there, if the champion or title challenger gets hurt, there’s a theoretical chance that a title fight could happen this year. No later than next year,” Dvorak is clear.
He is now in the USA, where he is preparing for the fight. The tournament will be held in Columbus, USA, in an arena where the NHL is played.
Dvořák went to see one NHL game in person. “It was a great thing for the psyche. You get to know the hall, the spectators were there, the show was unreal, it was worth it,” he said at the press conference.
The hall where the tournament will be held has a capacity of 18,500 spectators. It should be sold out. Dvorak is looking forward to the return of fans to the halls, saying it will only have a positive effect.
Weight and preparation
Patrik Kinl, who supervises David Dvorak’s preparation, revealed that all days are now mostly the same. “Except for one day off, we are not experiencing the great America, everything is focused on David and his preparation,” says the Octagon star.
According to Dvorak, everything is going as it should. He’s currently facing a move, media obligations and fine-tuning the weight class that’s scheduled for Friday. The latter shouldn’t be a big problem, he says it’s going well and won’t be a problem.
As part of the program, Dvorak and his team took an Indian sauna, he definitely doesn’t recommend it as an aid to losing weight. However, he admitted that it helped him get cleaned up.
Progress in the UFC and the fight with Nicolau
David Dvorak will be making his fourth fight in the UFC. He wanted to make gradual progress with his team, which has been successful: “ A lot of things have changed, we’ve worked a lot on a lot of technical stuff, we’ve worked a lot on mentality and I feel better in every fight, it’s hard to single out anything in particular.”
Patrik Kincl, however, highlighted one aspect. The growing self-confidence, which he said can be felt in training, where he sometimes lets himself get carried away and definitely does not spare his sparring partners. Now Dvorak feels he is in the best shape of his career.
“I feel the best right now. I’m well trained, we’re well prepared in every way. But I think I still have a lot of room for improvement. My peak could come in three or four years,” says Dvorak.
And what does he expect from the match with Nicolau? Only a win. “I don’t want to rely on the referee. I’ve seen his fights and the last two have been very close. I don’t want that. I want to show that I want to win. Even if it’s on points, clearly, without the judges having to think about who to give it to. I want to make the fight, make the biggest show,” he is clear.
Nicolau, he says, has skilful hands and is good on the ground too. But if he can keep his focus, stick to his strategy and not make any mistakes, he will “run him over like a locomotive”.
