A win in the drivers’ championship, a title in the Constructors’ Cup. With these championships, the Red Bull Racing team has confirmed its incredible form this year and, especially in the second half of the season, its absolute dominance.
And they can symbolically prove it in the upcoming Mexican Grand Prix. It will be at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez that the team’s number two, Pérez, will run his home race. And, like last year, he’ll be looking for the win.
The thirty-two-year-old Mexican Red Bull driver will certainly be spurred on by the home crowd, which already showed an electrifying atmosphere last year.
Thanks to the fans, Pérez even has his own chant, which you can hear in the video below.
Pérez finished third in Mexico in the 2021 season. This puts him on the podium alongside runner-up Lewis Hamilton and winner Max Verstappen. It was these two drivers who fought hard for the championship last season, making Verstappen’s victory one of the key moments of the season.
This year, however, the situation is different. Verstappen already has the title in his pocket, also in the Constructors’ Cup Red Bull is practically nothing. In Mexico, the Austrian team could go for Pérez. But he has denied any need for help.
Moreover, Checo is battling for second place in the Drivers’ Championship with Charles Leclerc, so a 25-point win would logically help him immensely.
I don’t need any help
“I don’t need anything to be given to me. For so many years I have achieved success without any gifts and I don’t even think about it. I’m focused on my work and on being perfect this weekend and finding my way to victory,” Pérez said in an interview with ESPN.
If Pérez does manage to win, he will become the first Mexican driver in history to win a domestic Grand Prix.
