I don’t care if he stays, Ancelotti says of one of his stars

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti was quite harsh on one of his stars in a recent interview. When asked about Marco Asensio’s future, he stated that he doesn’t care if he stays at the club or not.
Marco Asensio started in the starting lineup in the last league game against Elche and he rewarded his coach by scoring a goal that steered Real Madrid to victory. In this match, the Spanish striker was quite active and troubled the Elche defence.
Asensio is also playing for his contract, which expires at the club in the summer. So far, he has not agreed on an extension with Real, so his future is still uncertain.
His situation hasn’t been helped much by coach Carlo Ancelotti, who said in an interview that he doesn’t care if Asensio stays at Real. Moreover, he made this statement after the game against Elche, which Asensio managed to win.
“I don’t know if he will stay or not. Maybe he should, maybe not, I don’t know myself. I don’t care,” said Carlo Ancelotti rather surprisingly according to Diario AS.
But it’s certainly not that Ancelotti doesn’t see the necessary qualities in Asensio. “I like him. The important thing is that he contributes points like last year. Let him continue like this and the club will surely make the most sensible decision,” the Italian coach added.
Such a statement from a coach is not very common, also considering that the player’s contract at the club ends in a few months. Ancelotti’s statement is all the more surprising because Asensio has been at the Madrid club for eight years and is an important part of it.
While Asensio was close to leaving Real Madrid last year, he has now come out in favour of staying at the club. Everything now depends on the attitude of the management.
Marco Asensio has started 27 competitive games in the current season, scoring five goals and assisting five more.
