I can compete with the best, assured Muchová, who was troubled by an abdominal muscle in the semi-final
Karolína Muchová had a great run at the Australian Open, which unfortunately won’t end until the final match. Still, making it to the semi-finals is a fantastic achievement. How does the Olomouc native rate the Grand Slam?
Karolína Muchová had a great run at the Australian Open, which unfortunately won’t end until the final match. Still, making it to the semi-finals is a fantastic achievement. How does the Olomouc native rate the Grand Slam?
Karolína Muchová fought until the very end, even fending off four match points. However, she was not enough for Jennifer Brady and after a three-set drama she finally fell.
At the press conference, she blamed herself for her slow start to the match and let her opponent take advantage of it. “She played great, she served great. That wasn’t true of me. In the second set I settled down and tried to attack more. In the third set, I wasted opportunities on her serve and she took advantage of hers. That made the difference,” said the Olomouc native.
She was sorry that she couldn’t rely on her serve. But the injury was also behind it. Which one? “My abdominal muscle, which I have had problems with since the last tournament. Now it was hurting a lot. I was kind of throwing my serve there,” Muchová admitted.
She admitted that she would definitely benefit from a day off to give her more time to rest and recover. However, the Grand Slam semi-final is the biggest achievement of her career so she definitely can’t be unhappy.
“I made sure that I can compete with the best and that I have to keep working. I think that these losses motivate me even more to improve and to come back to the courts even better,” added Karolina Muchova.
