Sparta Prague will face a rematch of the Champions League second round against Rapid Vienna on Wednesday. What did its coach Dietmar Kühbauer say in a short interview for the club’s website?
The question about the goal in the Champions League qualifying return leg is rather nonsensical, but the club reporter didn’t forgive himself and Kühbauer answered succinctly.
“We want to go further, that’s our goal.”
Rapid, like Sparta, entered the league season at the weekend, but unlike the Prague side, they lost 2-3 to Hartberg.
“Our performance was unacceptable. We have to put it behind us and prepare for Sparta.”
According to the Austrian media, Rapid failed to perform well in their league debut and the local newspapers wrote them off from the Champions League. Nevertheless, the coach believes in his players.
“I trust my team that if they play as well as they can, we will be happier in the end.”
Despite the unfavourable result at the weekend, the Austrian vice-champion has the qualification to the third round in his hands, all he needs is a draw.
“I am expecting a very evenly matched, high intensity duel again. All the players have to perform at a very high level in order to advance,” concluded Kühbauer.
